Mykonos Island 1 day Sightseeing, Greece

Mykonos is a beautiful island in the Aegean Sea, Greece, and is known as the “White Jewel of the Aegean Sea.” Mykonos is a 45-minute flight from the capital Athens. Additionally, Mykonos Island is often a port of call for large cruise ships sailing through the Mediterranean Sea, so there are always large cruise ships anchored offshore. Santorini and Mykonos are the two most popular islands in the Aegean Sea, where the white houses and deep blue sea create a wonderful contrast. There is also a ferry that connects the two islands in about two and a half hours, and for deep Aegean travelers, both islands are a dream come true.

The entire island of Delos, which can be reached by boat from Mykonos in about 30 minutes, was registered as a World Heritage Site in 1990. Compared to Santorini, which is not a world heritage site, Mykonos has an advantage for UNESCO lovers. The uninhabited island of Delos is a solitary island measuring 1.3km from east to west and 5km from north to south. There is no accommodation on the island and it is currently in ruins.

See the Temple of Apollo, the Temple of Artemis, the Hall of Lions, and more. Zeus, the greatest god in Greek mythology, had a child with his mistress Leto, but when his legal wife Hera found out, she was furious. Leto fled to the island of Delos and gave birth to Apollo and Artemis on Mount Cyntos. It seems like God was also confused about gender issues, which makes him very human. Temples were built on the island of Delos, and the period between the 7th and 4th centuries BC was the period when Delos reached its peak as a sacred religious site.

Now, when you return to Mykonos from Delos, there are many things to see. Since it is not possible to arrange a Japanese guide who lives in Mykonos, we recommend a [Mykonos 1-day tour] with an English driver. The symbol of this island is the windmills that line the hill. It is called the windmill of Casa Mila. It’s like a wind generator in modern times. Also, the pure white building overlooking the sea that looks like a piece of modern art is the Paraportiani Church.

The building stands out in the setting sun and is a photogenic tourist spot. We will also visit Little Venice, which is lined with stylish cafes and restaurants that jut out into the sea. The order of sightseeing will change depending on the ferry reservation time to Delos.

The birthplace of Apollo and Artemis is one of the most sacred places in Greek mythology and has been selected as a World Heritage Site. There are many tourists from overseas, and there are many troublesome touts.

Charter a private vehicle that is familiar with the local roads and efficiently visit the highlights of the island and Delos!
